Discover the inspiring story of Jessica Pinsky, the artist and founder behind Praxis Fiber Workshop in Cleveland. Originally trained as a painter, Jessica felt a profound pull towards textiles, attributing it to an ancestral connection to seamstresses and tailors, ultimately becoming “totally hooked” on weaving after graduate school. Her vision for Praxis emerged as a solution (“opportunity”) to the Cleveland Institute of Art downsizing its fiber department, leading to the creation of a 7500 sq ft communal arts studio that officially opened in June 2015. Located in Cleveland’s Waterloo Arts District, Praxis, under Jessica’s leadership, is committed to being a dedicated neighbor and fostering a strong textile community. From its Natural Dye Initiative that grows indigo on vacant neighborhood parcels to providing public access to TC2 digital looms through an international residency program, Praxis uniquely blends tradition, innovation, and community.
